At present, U.S. Cellular is in the process of launching its M2M business model and a significant part of that effort includes the company’s recently release of M2M solutions in the areas of asset management, sensors and monitoring, fleet tracking and numerous other business solutions. Updated M2M service pricing was also introduced. This move indicated that the carrier is clearly seeking additional revenue streams in a bid to salvage what can only be interpreted as a somewhat sluggish wireless cellular network provider.

US Cellular Cell TowersCurrently, the network carrier’s new M2M price structure will range from 1 MB for just $6.99 a month to a 10 GB option that will see customers paying $119.99 a month for the service. This should be considered as a noteworthy achievement, as cellular network carriers usually don’t publish their M2M pricing structures and in many cases, custom price structures are in fact tailored for each of a network’s major M2M clients. Previously, retail customers from U.S. Cellular were being billed the same rates as those of the M2M customers.

However, M2M is not the only new venture on offer from the carrier at the moment, as it was recently disclosed that it is working to sell additional “non-strategic assets” in the form of 595 cell towers that are located “in areas outside of its core market focus” as well. The network carrier mentioned that TD Securities and Wells Fargo Securities will be managing the potential sale.

In August, U.S. Cellular also noted that it was able to achieve its third consecutive month of growth in its postpaid customer division. It was noted that an increase in customer figures during June and July of this year were attained by means of “strong growth in gross customer additions and improved churn rates.”

The above mentioned results have been classified as a rather notable reversal from the carrier’s recent performance levels. During the second quarter of 2014, U.S. Cellular had lost approximately 30,000 net subscribers compared to the 45,000 that were lost during the same quarter period last year.

U.S. Cellular’s executive vice president of operations, Jay Ellison, stated that, while the company is not planning on offering any specific promotions or deals around its upcoming launch of the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, it will certainly be considering some form of promotional offers around the upcoming holiday season. However, he has cautioned that the public should not expect anything specific in this regard, as the cellular network provider had not yet made any firm or definite plans with regards to launching promotional offers or deals as yet.
